Save the date, Marathon’s gameplay reveal is coming up this week

Bungie’s next installment of the classic shooter Marathon is finally getting a gameplay reveal, and it’s coming up this week.

Can you play as the cyber-cat?

First revealed say back in 2023, Bungie’s reinvention of Marathon is finally back in the news. It’s particularly great to see, since to date we’ve only gotten an ‘announcement’ trailer, and that was back when the game was originally revealed. Since that time, it’s been radio silent.

Said silence has left fans to wonder just how different this new Marathon would be, contrasted to what they might played decades ago. All we really know about it at this point is that it’s a multiplayer title that’ll offer team-based play. Well, that and that it sure looks colorful.

If you’re in the camp that’s dying to see what this new blaster is set to offer, we’ve got good news, because you’re about to find out. The developer has just revealed that fans have unlocked the long-awaited official gameplay premiere, via an ongoing alternate reality game. And yes, that first-look at Marathon will be landing on April 12th.

Oh, and there’s another teaser for you to check out right now. That too.

Marathon is a team-based extraction shooter and the first completely new project from Bungie, the creators of Halo and Destiny, in more than a decade. Set on the mysterious planet of Tau Ceti IV, Marathon will see players inhabit the bodies of Runners, cybernetic mercenaries who have been designed to survive the planet’s harsh environments. While exploring the lost colony that once inhabited the surface, players will search for valuable loot including new weapons and gear.

Bungie press release

Marathon makes its debut this Saturday, via a live showcase event at 1pm (eastern time). You’ll be able to check out the feed by way of Bungie’s Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok channels.
