Marvel Comics is heading into another Iron Man revamp this fall, and it might be the most-interesting one in a while.
The self-assembled man
If you missed the news, Iron Man is about to change in a big way. Tony Stark is rebuilding his empire as Stark Unlimited in Spencer Ackerman and Julius Ohta’s new book (simply titled Iron Man), and is creating a new set of armor as well. But this isn’t a suit that you might’ve seen before, and comes across as being more low-tech than we’ve seen.
There’s a big reason for that too, in that one of the centerpieces of the book will be Tony creating and then tinkering with the armor as stories roll out. With that, it sounds like the new suit might be a constantly-changing one, which should present some interesting possibilities.
Roxxon and A.I.M. team up to take on Stark Unlimited! But they’re ready for the old Tony Stark. This one? He’s a lot angrier than he used to be. Iron Man is going to war! He’s determined to never hit rock bottom again, his old enemies will face an Iron Man more than willing to fight back, play dirty, and unleash every bit of his intellect to bring them down! New armor, old enemies, and unbelievable twists abound in this fresh take on a fury-powered Iron Man!
“Winning a Pulitzer is cool and all, but it’s not writing for Marvel Comics,” Ackerman shared. “And to write IRON MAN is a very specific dream come true. A lot of comics’ best creators have used Iron Man to tell big stories about security and freedom—with a whole lot of super hero action, of course—and I can’t wait to build on their legacy.”

Marvel Comics press release
Along with the details that you see above, Marvel also dropped that accompanying Philip Tan cover that you see. The variant will be cast in foil, which has once again become a bit of a fan favorite, and if you look closely, has a pretty cool gimmick to it. The background that Iron Man is cast against is actually a massive pile of his former armors. Pretty neat.
Look for Iron Man #1 on the stands this October 23rd.
