Home video freezes over, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is out now to rent and buy (digitally)

The Ghostbusters series’ latest big screen outing is officially here for digital home video, landing for fans to either rent or buy.

Chilly for the springtime, no?

The chill outside may or may not still be lingering depending on where you are situated here in the US, but the shores of digital video are getting downright freezing. That, as you can see, is because Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is officially busting loose from theaters and has headed home.

The movie follows the familiar cast of returning ‘Busters, including Ray, Winston, and Peter, as their paranormal elimination service returns to NYC. Unfortunately, along with the team, the Spengler family, and a selection of new members, so does a big time ghastly ghoul, who’s looking to freeze the Big Apple cold.

Though it looked sharp, the movie had a somewhat lackluster debut in theaters. That’s not to say that it was a total dud though, as Frozen Empire still managed to hit just shy of the $200 million dollar mark. That’s according to Box Office Mojo, which also notes that the movie was only in theaters for six weeks. As mentioned, if you missed out on it during that run or just want to catch it one more time, then you can definitely do that right now, though we’re not talking about streaming.

That release is still a little ways off, though fans can either rent or buy Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire digitally, as of today. Along with the actual movie too, the digital edition is packed with special features. Deleted and bonus scenes are included, along with “Easter Eggs” and what looks to be a bunch of featurettes.

In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
