First released in 2012, Legend of Grimrock is still held in high-regard by dungeon-crawling fans. Now it’s coming to Switch.
Grimrock and roll
Has it really been 12 years (roundabout) since Almost Human Ltd. released Legend of Grimrock? Yes, unbelievably it has indeed, though that’s not stopping the developer from bringing the modern classic to new consoles.
As you can see above, that will include the Nintendo Switch, which will be getting sort of a surprise drop of the title this very month. It won’t quite be the same game that you remember though, as this new edition of the original Grimrock will sport a refined user interface, crafted with both couch and on the go play in mind.
“All of us at Almost Human have had other things to do besides Legend of Grimrock in recent years so why should we do a port of a game that’s almost 11 years old already? The idea of the port arose when our programmer, Petri Häkkinen, had a Nintendo Switch developer kit and he thought it would be a fun and educational side project to get the game running on our favorite console platform. Most of our decisions aren’t driven by business development plans or market analysis and this one was no exception since we did the project simply because it was enjoyable for us. We anticipate this release will rekindle the excitement of many of the old fans of the game and we hope some new adventurers will discover the delights of old school dungeon crawling too.”
Antti Tiihonen, one of the co-founders of Almost Human Ltd.
Bust out the torches and dust off that map, Legend of Grimrock debuts on Switch this month, on January 15th, 2024.
