Adding to the company’s already awesome collection of licenses, fans can expect to see Escape from New York product sometime soon.
Of course, you’ll have to pay in greenbacks
If you’re an action movie fan, and you either dig the classics or you’re old enough to remember the 80s, then you probably know all about Escape from New York. The legendary John Carpenter not only directed it, but both co-wrote and co-scored the flick, which introduced Snake Plissken to fans for the first time.
“You go in, find the president, bring him out in 24 hours, and you’re a free man.” – Bob Hauk, USPF
S.D. Bob “Snake” Plissken. A Lieutenant in the Special Forces Unit “Black Light.” Two Purple Hearts. The youngest man to be decorated by the president. Then he robbed the Federal Reserve Depository, and was sentenced to a life sentence in the New York Maximum Security Penitentiary.
Snake is about to get his ass kicked out of the world, but when Air Force One is hijacked by anti-government insurgents and deliberately crashed behind the walls of Manhattan Island, he finds himself unwillingly drafted into a new covert mission. With micro-explosives implanted in his neck, and only 22 hours to save the president, the clock is ticking…
Sideshow press release
In the decades since release, Snake has seen one more movie, as well as some comics and a few action figures here and there. But as far as we know, there’s never been a high-end collectible line associated with the property. That’s to say, until this week.
An icon in its own right, Sideshow has revealed it will be adapting the original movie, and crafting… something. The details on the deal are actually non-existant right now, though there were a few notable lines in the press release. Chief among those, was the specific mention of Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Isaac Hayes, and Adrienne Barbeau. It could be that the release just mentioned those actors since they all played in the movie, or it could be that they will all be getting some kind of merchandise. Again though, it’s tough to tell at present.
If you’d like to get the details sooner then later though, you can sign up on the official RSVP page, which you can find here. Doing so should get you the info emailed as soon as it breaks.
