Space shooter fans strap in, Rockfish’s massive Everspace 2 is finally ready for play on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Into the infinite
After landing on the PC, Everspace 2 is finally ready for play on consoles. That’s to say it’s ready digitally, as a boxed release is still a little ways off. Those versions will still arrive before the end of the year, but if you’d like to experience developer Rockfish’s monster of a space-based, sci-fi epic right now, you certainly can.
The game delivers a galaxy that’s 100 star-systems deep, and each one “hand-crafted” too. No, you won’t find procedurally generated locations here, as this game took 6 years to make it to fans for a reason.
“With EVERSPACE 2 coming to Xbox and PlayStation today, we’re excited to see console space game fans headed to the stars in our sci-fi action RPG. This adventure has been more than six years in the making, and from beginning to finish an absolute passion project for everyone on the team,” says ROCKFISH Games CEO Michael Schade. “The journey for EVERSPACE 2 fans is not over. In addition to a free update coming later this fall, we’ve already started work on a sizable expansion to the game which will add more star systems, more story content, more characters, and most importantly, more loot to discover.”

As you can see there, there’s still a heck of a lot more Everspace 2 coming up, so this launch is really just the start of the adventure. But as goes this version, there are a few key ways that it sets itself apart from the already available PC edition.
In addition to 60fps play, PlayStation 5 fans will get extra options thanks to the PS5’s controller. The game supports the Dual Shock’s haptic feedback function, as well as adaptive triggers and its built-in speaker. Players can expect “haptic feedback on weapon and boost depletion, adaptive trigger-based boosting based on depth of trigger pull, and advanced haptic and speaker feedback when activating devices and consumables”. That’s in addition to warning of incoming projectiles, and a “variety of other integrations”.
On the flip side of the console-coin, and if you’re playing on an Xbox with a Game Pass subscription, then you’re already good to go. The game is a day one addition, and not just on the console. Subscribers can get down on some spacey action there for sure, but also fire up a copy via the Microsoft Store. Both versions are included in Game Pass, thanks to Play Anywhere. One note though, as the Series X matches the PS5’s 60fps play, but the S version of the Xbox only gets to 30.
As for retail boxed copies, this will be along this October the 3rd. Distributed by Maximum Games, boxed editions will include steelbook packaging, plus a 64 page art book and soundtrack (digital).
