One of the biggest names from the 90s era of Marvel’s mutants, artist Whilce Portacio is back with a story featuring his co-creation Bishop.

At this point, everybody knows Lucas Bishop pretty well. But of course there as a time when he was a fresh face, just on the scene. Created by artist Whilce Portacio, John Byrne, and Karl Altstaetter back in 1991, the time-travelling mutant known simply as Bishop is now an ingrained part of the X-Men mythos.
He had a major impact on storylines from day one, and even crossed over into mega-popular cartoon. Yet, even with all of that, the character’s past has remained largely hidden even to the present day. If you guessed that Portacio’s return was to fill out that past though, you’d be right.
Playing out in X-Men Legends #’s 5 and 6, Portacio will team with writer Brian Haberlin, for a tale that goes back to before Bishop’s time-jump.
The story will finally reveal the genesis of Bishop’s fateful time travel mission that pulled him from the future and into the X-Men’s present! Presaging Bishop’s first appearance in the classic Uncanny X-Men #282, the arc will shed new light on Bishop’s original motivations and the intense guilt he feels over his fallen teammates as well as provide surprising depth to the dystopian world he left behind.
