World War I hits stores for the PlayStation with Verdun and Tannenberg

WWII is probably the Great War that gamers know best. Verdun and Tannenberg will seek to change that though, as they arrive on PS4/5.

Mustard gas

When you think about video games that have played out the great wars of the real world, one comes to mind immediately. That, of course, is WWII. The Second Great War was all-consuming in gaming, and had a slew of titles dedicated to it, including some that spawned massive franchises. WWI though? Not so much.

Yeah, there’ve been a few over the years, but not much that’s been notable. GS2 Games though, is seeking to change that with the physical-retail arrival of both Verdun and Tannenberg.

The two games are set in WWI’s era, and have been seen before, though not on disc. This is the first time at retail for either one of them, and if you’re a fan of multiplayer gaming, they both look to be worth a peek.

Verdun

Inspired by the infamous 1916 Battle of Verdun, Verdun takes place on the Western Front between 1914 and 1918, in one of the bloodiest conflicts in world history. As a multiplayer FPS set in a realistic World War One atmosphere, the vicious, close-quarters nature of trench warfare means that skill with a bayonet can be as vital as good aim with a rifle.

Five distinct game-modes with many historically accurate features such as realistic WWI weaponry, authentic uniforms, horrendous gore and maps based on the real battlefields of France and Belgium. The dynamic Frontlines game mode features up to 40 human and AI players taking turns to go over the top and attempt to capture the opposing trench line.

Tannenberg

Tannenberg takes place across the lakes, forests, mountains, and snowy plains of the Eastern Front. Players will be able to master a range of authentically modeled equipment brought to the field by Russian Frontovik and Cossack squad’s, the renowned Latvian Riflemen or the Romanian infantry squad. Alternatively, they can join the Central Powers to serve in an Austro-Hungarian K.u.K unit, with the German Infantry or the Bulgarian rifle section.

The game offers several modes, including the exciting Maneuver mode that reflects the nature of war on the Eastern Front, as up to 40 human and AI players battle across large maps where the objective and battle line are always shifting. Survive by working together with your four-man squad and utilizing your distinctive skills. There is a wealth of historical detail, including realistic weaponry, authentic uniforms, horrendous gore and maps based on real battlefields.

Both titles are out right now for the PS4 and the PS5, and will run you $24.99 USD apiece.
