Warner Bros’ hotly anticipated collection of Superman: The Animated Series is still coming up next month, but’s been pushed back a few weeks.
Not faster than a speeding bullet then
Last month, we told you that the classic 90s Superman cartoon was heading to home video with a box set. Though the show has been seen before on DVD, this is set to be a decidedly better looking product.
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation (WBA), the Emmy Award-winning Superman: The Animated Series was the perfect follow-up to the landmark Batman: the Animated Series. Producers Bruce Timm, Paul Dini and Alan Burnett elevated The Man of Steel’s animated presence with an imaginative, heartfelt look at Superman’s adventures in Metropolis alongside Lois Lane and opposite the villainous likes of Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Darkseid and more. Premiering on September 6, 1996, the series continued WBA’s dominance in Super Hero animation, once again setting new standards for storytelling, art direction and acting performances – and garnering 11 Emmy Award nominations and two Emmy Award wins, including top honors as the Outstanding Special Class Animated Program of 1998.

The set includes the full run of the show, but comes complete with remastering of the contained 54 episodes, and a new featurette. If you remember the boxed edition of Batman: the Animated Series from a few years ago, and how much better that looked than what usually airs on TV, you know what to expect.
The only downside of all of this, is that it’s not hitting a little bit later than previously announced. While the set was inbound for a mid-OCtober launch originally, it’s not scheduled to arrive on the 26th.
All in all, that’s not that terrible of a delay. Especially in today’s world where we’re seeing shortages of just about everything, I’v come to expect worse.
