Call of Duty: Vanguard alpha coming to PS4/5 this week

Itching to play a little of the latest Call of Duty title, Vanguard? Well you’re in luck if you’re a PlayStation gamer, since an alpha test opens this week.

Rise of the Vanguard

Just officially confirmed and inbound for a holiday 2021 launch is Call of Duty: Vanguard. The latest in the series of military shooters, Activision and Sledgehammer Games’ Vanguard takes things back to the days of WWII. It’s there that the game will showcase the origins of military ‘special forces’.

That’s the campaign of course, though Vanguard will host all the CoD-trimmings you’ve become used to. And yes, that includes zombies and the famed Call of Duty-brand of multiplayer. Actually, it’s that last bit that leads right into today’s news, about a PlayStation-exclusive alpha test.

Kicking off this week, the alpha will allow gamers to dig into Champion Hill, the new multiplayer mode. As you can see, it’s a team-based free-for-all that’ll have players scrambling for the means to pay for new hardware.

The 48 hours of playtime will be free for all, and begin on August 27 at 10am pacific time. It’ll run through the 29th at the same time.

There’s a bit more CoD news this week as well, with the confirmation of the third annual Call of Duty Endowment (C.O.D.E.) Bowl. Military esports teams (bet you didn’t know those existed) from the US and UK will clash in a December 10th event that will also include “some of your favorite Call of Duty creators”.

The battle will take place aboard the Intrepid in NYC’s harbor, and will bring back the returning champs, the US Space Force. On top of the fun, the Bowl is for a very good cause too, helping veterans find stable work. That’s no easy task, especially in the world as it is right now.
