The second Great War plays as the backdrop to a brand new animated DC universe film coming up from Warner Bros. Justice Society: WWII hits in May.
Past Justice
If you’ve been following DC’s slate of animated feature films over the last few years, then you know that they’ve got an extremely soldi track record. Overall the DC animated movies that come out of Warner Bros are terrific, paying close attention to the subject matter.
As of late though, the ‘universe’ that they all shared has been eschewed, ending with the Justice League Dark film. And in its place, there’s a fresh push to come up with original stuff, from across DC’s various eras. Case in point, their latest announcement.
Justice Society: WWII is not only set in World War II, but it’s also the very first animated movie to feature the famous precursor to the more familiar League. As the title says, that’d be the Justice Society.
Though as you’ll see in the trailer below, there is one Leaguer who’s made it back to the past to play a part in this story. Spoiler alert: he wears red.
Run Barry, run
Justice Society: World War II finds modern-day Barry Allen – prior to the formation of the Justice League – discovering he can run even faster than he imagined, and that milestone results in his first encounter with the Speed Force. The Flash is promptly launched into the midst of a raging battle – primarily between Nazis and a team of Golden Age DC Super Heroes known as The Justice Society of America. Led by Wonder Woman, the group includes Hourman, Black Canary, Hawkman, Steve Trevor and the Golden Age Flash, Jay Garrick. The Flash quickly volunteers to assist his fellow heroes in tipping the scales of war in their favor, while the team tries to figure out how to send him home. But it won’t be easy as complications and emotions run deep in this time-skipping World War II thriller.
