World War Z has sold *almost* 2 million copies in just a month

That can’t be right… can it? Yep, it is. Focus and Saber’s zombie shooter World War Z has sold through 2 million copies in just its opening month.

Slight correction to this story: WWZ has sold almost 2 million copies. Focus Interactive says that the game is approaching the milestone, which is still pretty impressive.

The dead have taken over

I was under the impression that World War Z was a cheap cash in on a name that still has some oomph with consumers. I was also under the impression that gamers had more or less had it with zombies and multiplayer, co-op shooters. Well… nope to all of that.

Not only is World War Z pretty darn good (according to our own Mike Stebbins), but it’s also a smash hit. Industry site MCV is reporting today that the title has broken 2 million units sold. Making it all that much more impressive is that this feat was accomplished in just one month.

The news comes as WWZ begins to talk about a bevy of upcoming free DLC for the game. The new downloadable content includes several upgrades, including:

  • A new Tokyo mission
  • A new zombie type
  • “Six-skull” difficulty
  • A Weekly Challenge mode
  • Other cosmetic enhancements

No word on exactly when all that will be available for download, but we do know there’s even more on the horizon. Developer Saber also says that there’s a Survival Mode, a class-switching mechanic, and more coming up.

You can read about that and more at the source-link below, and pick up World War Z for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC (via Steam) now.
