Yes, you read that right, the classic Castlevania game series getting a cartoon. And it’s going to be aimed squarely at older fans.
What is a man…
Netflix recently revealed not just a second season for a few of its already-existing shows, but a brand new Castlevania series. Yes, you read that right. No, I’m not kidding.
The show will apparently air in four parts, with Season 1, Part 1 hitting this year… at some point. There’s no firm release date yet, and there’s no word on just how many episodes will make up each “part”. I will say though, that there’s more than enough to get fans excited.
Firstly, that’s because this new series seems to be based on the classic lore. But it also sounds like there’ll be more than a little real-world Dracula mythos mixed into it. I can’t remember Vlad Tepes (the historical figure Drac is based on) being included in the games at any point, but he’s sure as shooting in this. And man, there’s no reason not to get pumped up if you’re a fan.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.
As for how we know it’ll be rated R, well that’d be because producer Adi Shankar said as much in an interview with IGN. Oh, and writer/producer Warren Ellis? He mentioned Game of Thrones in terms of feel. Yep. Now all we need is a hard reboot over in video game land.
