Kidbash: Super Legend to bring roguelike, claymation action

Acclaim’s upcoming title looks to cast a net towards gaming nostalgia and slick visuals. Here’s the first look at Kidbash: Super Legend.

Kidbash? Was that for Game Boy?

Well, first, no. Kidbash: Super Legend is a wholly new action-roguelike from Acclaim and Indonesian studios Authentic Remixes and Fat Raccoon. We want to clarify that right at the top of this article, since you’re going to see some visuals in the trailer that might leave you guessing at the game’s origins.

Those retro-visuals are there for a reason though, and that would be to reflect gaming history itself. Kidbash: Super Legend plays off of that, featuring an island of lost and forgotten video game characters. It’s there that the title hero finds himself, as he battles foes in a world that pays “homage to the classic adventures of Mega Man and Kirby”.

Adding to the vibe is a claymation-style aesthetic. And from the first look that was delivered today, it looks like the resurgent Acclaim might have a winner with this one.

“Kidbash grabbed all of our attention, instantly. It feels like somebody uncovered a lost action classic from the PS3/Dreamcast era and gave it a modern 2020’s soul. Authentic Remixes & Fat Raccoon built something with real style, real gameplay, and a ton of personality.” said Marc Anthony Rodriguez, Director of Publishing & Strategic Partnerships at Acclaim, Inc.

“The second we saw the claymation-real “Laika-esque” vibe of the game world, the mash-up weapon combat, and the sheer energy of it all moving together, we knew this game had something special. This is exactly the kind of bold, memorable indie game Acclaim was brought back to champion!”

Acclaim press release

While it looks sharp, Kidbash: Super Legend doesn’t have a release date just yet. You can expect to see it arrive for consoles and the PC some time in 2027.
