In true Marvel fashion, the publisher is harkening back to 1976, for a year of variant covers designed to celebrate the US’ birthday.
Happy Birthday America
She’s been around for a long, long time at this point. We’re talking about the United States of course, home of a Democratic Republic that’s proving to be built to last, despite any and all challenges. Next year the superpower will be heading into a hugely important year, celebrating its 250th birthday, and Marvel Comics is planning out a year of variant covers top celebrate.
The newly revealed initiative will harken back to the 1976 Mighty Marvel Bicentennial Calendar, and feature some of Marvel’s mots iconic superheroes in scenes based on American history. The party is going to be a year-long one as well, so while it’ll be beginning this July, the fun will run right through to next July.
As such, Marvel isn’t ready to reveal the full slate of variant covers, though we do have a small sampling to show you, including dates of sale for the first few. Looks like these are going to be arriving at the rate of one per month, so stay tuned for a whole bunch more true believers.
