Darth Maul goes from original concept art to figure with new Hot Toys offering

Coming to Star Wars fans from Hot Toys is the newest look at Darth Maul, that plays off of one of his oldest looks, never seen on screen.

He never really goes away

Darth Maul was, to put it mildly, the biggest standout from the original Star Wars prequel film. Yes, it had other moments and actor Ewan McGregor’s turn as Obi-Wan Kenobi became a favorite for fans, but a seed of lasting popularity was planted by Ray Park (physically) and Peter Serafinowicz (vocally) with their combined portrayal of the dangerous Sith, named Darth Maul.

Maul would go on from there to star in a series of animated appearances as fans know, where he was voiced by Sam Witwer. And now as a brand new animated show starring the villain (also with Witwer attached) has been announced, Hot Toys is looking to take him back to his earliest days. And we’re talking about before The Phantom Menace, to his time training with Darth Sidious.

Darth Maul (Concept Art) seems set to debut some time soon, though we’re not sure of the exact date, and has been pulled from the original concept art for Maul. In it, he’s envisioned wearing a training outfit that varies greatly from his usual togs. Along with that, the concept version of Darth Maul sports an earlier design for his signature horns as well, though he still brandishes his staple double-bladed lightsaber.

Check out the new figure in a mini-unboxing below, that was just produced by retailer Sideshow.

Inspired by concept art, the Darth Maul™ Concept Art 1/6 Scale Figure captures a reimagined appearance of Darth Maul in his training suit during his days as an apprentice to Darth Sidious. Maul wears an expertly tailored fabric costume in a light khaki color, providing a very different look to his usual dark attire. This highly detailed figure features a new headsculpt with string details on the horns, and utilizes Hot Toys’ rolling eyeball design so that collectors can adjust the figure’s gaze for more nuanced poses. Maul comes with his iconic double-bladed Lightsaber™, which features an LED light-up function.

Sideshow press release

Sideshow’s says that their online shop is expected to have a limited amount of the above figures on hand, though much like the release date, we’re not sure exactly how many that could mean. However large or small the run though, the retailer does have an RSVP posted for Darth Maul (Concept Art) right now, which you can find by clicking one of the links above.
