Assassin’s Creed Shadows goes portable, will be playable on Steam Deck

Ubisoft has doubled back on its previous statement about Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ compatibility with the Steam Deck.

Go ninja go

The somewhat rocky road that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has had to get to launch is almost over. The latest release in the long running series, Shadows is about to roll into a full retail release for consoles and PC, and will be landing later this week, on March 20th.

When it does arrive, it’ll be bringing the Assassin’s Creed series to feudal Japan for the first time. And despite what publisher Ubisoft has said, it’ll also be offering something else, something that it wasn’t scheduled to., Yes, that’d be certification for Valve’s handheld PC, the Steam Deck.

If you missed what we’re referencing, Ubi had originally said that the Steam version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows would not be certified for play on the portable when it first hit the digital gaming shop. But be that as it may, the company has apparently been able to iron out any issues, granting the game ‘verified’ status.

That’s not to say that there weren’t some compromises though, as players won’t be able to change graphics settings while playing on the Deck. Yes that’s disappointing, but from the article that was posted to Steam, it also sounds like those options might still be coming at some point. And for what it’s worth, there will be an option to choose an upscaler.

On top of that, the Steam version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will feature everything you might expect from a triple-A launch on the platform. Ubisoft says that it’ll sport “virtual trading cards, badges, emoticons, and background images”.
