Funcom’s Dune: Awakening powers-up with NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 and Razer’s Chroma

Fans looking to get lost in the open-world of Funcom’s upcoming Dune: Awakening might want to upgrade their gear now.

My… Dune

Still in the midst of quite the renaissance is author Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi tale, Dune. It’s a property that’s now anchored by the series of modern films from Legendary Pictures and director Denis Villeneuve. The set of movies will be seeing a third installment too, as Dune: Messiah is in production now.

But while that’s a lot of modern content, it’s not all, as there’ve been action figures and several video games from various publishers. One of the most promising of the latter is actually still in the offing, with Dune: Awakening. From Funcom, the Massively Multiplayer Open World Survival Game will set players down on the sands of Arrakis itself.

The goal will be to survive the deadly planet, plus to attempt to stand out in the eyes of the two big houses at play, House Harkonnen and House Atreides. As of today’s announcements too, the title will be looking better than ever, thanks to its adaption of NVIDIA DLSS 4.

NVIDIA DLSS 4 makes Arrakis a wonder to behold at incredible frame rates. Soar across the dunes of Arrakis in your ornithopter as the last rays of sunlight slip over the horizon, and witness the twin moons rise over the desert. DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation enhances Dune: Awakening’s most exciting moments and majestic sights with incredible performance and image quality.

Fuccom press release

While you can’t see it in action in the new trailer above, NVIDIA DLSS 4 isn’t the only new tech to come into play with Dune: Awakening. Funcom has revealed that Razer’s “brand-new synced lighting and the full suite of Razer’s haptic feedback devices” will be supported as well.

That includes the company’s Freyja HD haptic gaming cushion and Kraken Pro headset, for those looking for as much immersion as possible. Funcom says that players will be able to feel “everything happening around you: the ground rumbling as a giant sandworm approaches, the crashing wind of the deadly sandstorm, and the kick of the rocket launcher as you fire at an enemy Ornithopter.”

Dune: Awakening is launching early this year (2025) for the PC. That won’t be all for the game though, as console editions are en route as well, with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S installments hitting some time down the line.
