The new Absolute Universe isn’t stopping with DC’s trinity, as three more heroes are being added to the new U for 2025.
A brave new universe
If you haven’t been paying too much attention, DC Comics’ Absolute Universe is turning out to be a radically different take on some of the world’s biggest heroes and villains. True, the names might be the same, but the origins and looks are most definitely not. Well, mostly anyway.
So far, we’ve gotten a look at a unique trinity with Absolute Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, but the publisher isn’t stopping there. This weekend at the NYCC, DC took the wraps off of three more titles that are on the way, and set to debut in March of 2025. As you might imagine, since this is a pretty tight lineup of comics, those would be featuring more big names.
You’d be right too, since Absolute Flash, Absolute Martian Manhunter, and Absolute Green Lantern are all coming up. As with the first three series’, these are fresh takes on the title heroes, and whatever you’re expecting, it’s likely not what DC is bringing to stores.
Absolute Green Lantern
Flash, for instance, is a teenage Wally West. Martian Manhunter? He’s more cop than superhero, and has a truly monstrous ‘true’ form. And Green Lantern doesn’t look like it’s going to be Hal, John, or any of the Corps’ traditional Earth-based big guns, instead seeing Jo Mullein take up sector duties.
Absolute Flash
DC’s launch of its Absolute Universe has been an unqualified success, selling through multiple printings and receiving incredible critical acclaim and fan response. Today DC announced it would be adding to its second wave of titles, as writer Deniz Camp confirmed that Absolute Martian Manhunter would be joiningAbsolute Green Lantern and Absolute Flash in 2025. Camp is making his DC series debut with artist Javier Rodríguez on a new take on one of DC’s most enigmatic characters. Fans will have to wait until next March to see if Chocos (Martian Manhunter’s favorite snack) will be involved.
DC Comics press release
Absolute Martian Manhunter
As you can see from the above, Martian Manhunter will be brought to life by the team of writer Deniz Camp and Javier Rodríguez. Absolute Flash will spin out of Jeff Lemire, who’ll also be handling the mainline DCU return of the Justice Society, and Nick Robles. As for Green Lantern, look for that title to conclude the new additions with star writer Al Ewing taking the helm, joined by artist Jahnoy Lindsay.
All of the above are expected to land in stores in 2025, with Absolute Flash and Green Lantern arriving sometime in March. Absolute Martian Manhunter might be on target for that month as well, though the press release wasn’t specific about that particular book.
