Comedy, horror, and plenty of action, Killing Time: Resurrected lands next week

Fresh from the land that the genre forgot, Killing Time: Resurrected is set to bring the 90s original back, thanks to Nightdive and Ziggurat.

Spooky time

Remember that halcyon days of the mid-90s, when first-person shooters were still relatively new, and off the wall entries were the norm? It was a time for experimentation in the young genre, and one that would see legendary titles arrive along with those that would soon be forgotten. Sprinkled in with all of those games though, were some that trod the line and became cult classics.

Is Killing Time one such game? For us it kind of is, since we remember the 3DO console-exclusive shooter with some favor. Yeah, it was weird, but that weirdness set it apart from the pack, and delivered a horror/comedy blaster that those who spent any time with it would be hard-pressed to forget. Now, thanks to Nightdive and Ziggurat, it’s back and better than ever.

Killing Time: Resurrected arrives next week for consoles and PC, and brings with it a beefed up version of “the bastard child of Doom and The 7th Guest”. Fans can now toggle between the original looks and a set of revamped visuals, plus experience “upscaled environmental texturing, smoother gameplay, more responsive controls, and expanded control and key-bind settings”, according to the press release.

Set in the early 1930s, Killing Time: Resurrected casts players as a former Egyptology student trapped in the estate of wealthy heiress Tess Conway. Ms. Conway’s ritual to bestow eternal life backfires, and her high-society friends vanish without a trace. It’s up to players to find and destroy the mystical Egyptian Water-Clock to undo its curse and face a legion of supernatural horrors.

Ziggurat Interactive press release

If you’ve just played the 3DO version of Killing Time, or just the PC edition that came afterwards, you might notice a few things in that trailer. For one, the game now stocks enemies from both editions for the first time, and that’s right along side both games’ arsenal, and a bevy of cut content that’s seemingly not been seen before.

All of that is packed in with over 50 live action sequences, featuring spirits who will fill players in on the afterlife happenings of the mansion they’re fighting through. Speaking of the locale too, fans will be treated to 4K resolution, “144 FPS, with anti-aliasing and upgraded/new 2D screens and menu art”, and a complete 360 degree view. Oh, and of course updated controls to boot.

Ready to blast some ghosts? Killing Time: Resurrected arrives for Xbox and PlayStation consoles, plus the PC, and the Switch on October 17th, 2024.
