More info arrives for the Xbox’ Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection, as the game hits other platforms

It’s a big week for retro fighting game fans, with the release of Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics.

Fight now, fight later

So yeah, this is a big week for anyone who loved Capcom’s Marvel Comics crossover games from that magical heyday of the genre that was the 1990s. Just yesterday the publisher dropped digital editions of Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics onto the Switch, PS4, and PC.

The launch brought back a host of all-time greats that fans haven’t been able to buy on really any storefronts (console or PC) for a long, long time.

Included in the package deal are true icons of the genre, like:

  • X-MEN® CHILDREN OF THE ATOM
  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES™
  • X-MEN™ VS. STREET FIGHTER®
  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES™ vs. STREET FIGHTER®
  • MARVEL™ vs. CAPCOM® CLASH OF SUPER HEROES
  • MARVEL™ vs. CAPCOM® 2 New Age of Heroes
  • THE PUNISHER™

All of the above offer up online play, complete with rollback netcode, leaderboards, training modes, and a Spectator Mode. Along with all of that, Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics also delivers multiple difficulty settings, “One-Button Specials” (exactly what it sounds like), jukebox and museum modes, and more.

And while this week’s is a digital launch, physical versions of the Switch and PS4 editions will be along shortly. Those will be landing on retail shelves on November 22nd, 2024. What’s not coming before the new year though, is any version of the collection for the Xbox One (note that both Sony and Microsoft’s installments are last-gen for some reason).

It wasn’t long ago though, that we got word that the collection wouldn’t be skipping Microsoft’s Xbox One completely, but would be arriving later, some time in 2025. And even though we still don’t have a release date for that, we did get just a little more info this week pertaining to it. Namely, and this isn’t terrific for those who prefer physical games, it certainly sounds like it’s going to be digital only.

A bit of a bummer? Yeah, there’s no sugar coating it from where we sit, since we like to build out our physical library as much as possible. But hey, it’s better than not getting it at all, no?
