Nintendo Download: Throwback Thursday

Marvel vs Capcom leads the way this week for the Nintendo Switch, which also sees Yars Rising, Lollipop Chainsaw, Rugrats, and more.

What’s old is new

As the title of this Nintendo Download suggests, it really is a throwback kinda week. And from where we sit, that’s a pretty good thing, particularly in the case of the headlining game, Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics.

Complete with awkward name, the brand new digital collection features publisher Capcom’s all-time great Marvel Comics-themed titles, straight from the arcades. Along with the bounty of iconic one-on-one fighting games too, fans even get the oft forgotten Punisher beat ’em up, a side-scroller featuring the title anti-hero and the original Nick Fury (for co-op). The bundle will be out in physical format as well for the Switch, though not until November 22nd. So if you want to play asap, digital is your pathway.

Of course, as we mentioned there’s more than just one game landing on Nintendo’s console this week, and there’s more retro-themed action mixed in with that additional lot. The side-scrolling maestro’s at WayForward have their newest classically-styled title out there with Yars Rising, while Jackbox Naughty Pack arrives with some after dark trivia action, plus nickelodeon’s Rugrats debut their own retro adventure, and the long-awaited Lollipop Chainsaw Re-Pop brings the niche 2012 hit back for the current generation.

All in all, that adds up to a pretty darn solid week.

• Yars Rising – From WayForward, the development studio behind Shantae and River City Girls, comes Yars Rising, a side-scrolling action-adventure exploration of one of Atari’s best-known classic titles: Yars’ Revenge. Take control of the young hacker Emi Kimura, who is hired by a mysterious patron to infiltrate the shadowy QoTech corporation. Run, jump, sneak and hack your way through waves of robotic and alien enemies as you slowly unravel a complex secret shrouded in intrigue. The game also features a series of challenging retro minigames that pay homage to the original Yars’ Revenge. Yars Rising is available now.
