The new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 reveals Shadow, and an unlikely team-up

It’s all hands on deck against Shadow in the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, as Sonic teams up with Doctor Robotnik himself.

Spending back to theaters

How are the Sonic movies as good as they are? It’s a little bizarre, but the films have captured fans’ attention in a big way, with faithful visual adaptations (past the initial unpleasantness) of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, and a pretty rocking voice cast. The first two movies pulled in over $700 million USD combined (globally), and from the looks of things, we can likely expect a similar take for Sonic 3.

Just revealed in a new trailer, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 brings in a cast that includes the one and only Jim Carrey, plus Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub. But it’s not all returning talent, as Alyla Browne, Krysten Ritter, and one Keanu Reeves will all be onboard too. And yes, Keanu is voicing Shadow.

Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen this holiday season in his most thrilling adventure yet. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.

Paramount Pictures press release

From director Jeff Fowler and in association with Sega Sammy Group, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hits theaters on December 20th, 2024.
