SDCC ’24: More retro Star Wars revealed with Hasbro’s Black Series STAP & Battle Droid

One of the coolest things to come out of Star Wars: Episode I (that we don’t hear much about), the STAP is coming to The Black Series.

We love Creed

Do you remember the launch of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace? If you’re a Star Wars fan who’s old enough, then you likely do, since it was a monster event in the world of pop culture. And if you do remember that happening, then you probably remember the toys.

Complete with stores holding midnight openings, the launch of the first wave of The Phantom Menace toys was almost as big as the movie itself. Among those first releases were the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn, the now-famous Battle Droids, and of course the STAP.

A brand new vehicle (at the time), the STAP Was a kind of speeder/weapons platform hybrid, manned by the aforementioned Trade Federation Droids. It was different, it was cool, and we’ve really not seen much like it since. Hasbro though, definitely remembers it well, since the company is bringing the vehicle to Star Wars: The Black Series.

Revealed at Comic Con last week, the STAP & Battle Droid combo won’t be a mass market release, but will instead be a part of Hasbro’s Pulse Con this fall. The pack will include a stand for posing, and will ship in some great looking Episode I packaging.

STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES features 6-inch action figures, vehicles, and roleplay items from the 40-plus-year legacy of the STAR WARS Galaxy, letting fans create galactic scenes with a faithfulness to STAR WARS comic books, movies, and series. This STAR WARS set is detailed to look like a STAP & Battle Droid from STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE. Pose the figure and vehicle on your shelf with the included stand or with the window box packaging that celebrates 25 years of the film. Comes with 3 accessories, including a removable backpack and back antenna.

With exquisite features and decoration, THE BLACK SERIES embodies the quality and realism that STAR WARS devotees love. Look for more STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES action figures to build your own STAR WARS galaxy (each sold separately, subject to availability). Available at Hasbro Pulse Con later this year, details to come soon.

Hasbro press release

There’s no pre-order date just yet for the STAP & Battle Droid, but again you can look for it some time this fall during Pulse Con. It’s set to retail for $49.99 USD.
