The southern gothic returns, with Dark Horse’s Complete Harrow County

A hardcover collection will bring together all 32 issues of horror comic Harrow County, arriving in time for Halloween.

Horror, with a drawl

One of the better original horror properties from recent years, Harrow County spun out of the teaming of writer Cullen Bunn and artist Tyler Crook. The story mainly focused on Emmy, a young girl who discovers that she’s not only linked to the things that go bump in the woods surrounding her southern town, but she’s also the reincarnation of a long-dead witch.

The series featured a great homespun-horror aesthetic, and some really original horror twists. And while it was only 32 issues in length, it made an impact. Fortunately, if you missed the original run (or you’re just a big fan), there’s going to be one fantastic looking hardcover collection coming along later this year.

“Harrow County is a book that means a great deal to me,” said Bunn. “When someone asks me where to start with my work, this is one of the series I almost always suggest. There’s not a page of the series that I don’t absolutely love, and it thrills me that it has connected in a similar way with so many readers. This complete edition is going to open the doors for so many people who have never visited Harrow before, and I cannot wait to welcome them to the fold.”

Emmy always knew that the woods surrounding her home crawled with ghosts and monsters. But on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, she learns that she is connected to these creatures–and to the land itself–in a way she never imagined. Could Emmy be the reincarnation of an infamous witch? As supernatural forces that baffle the imagination align against her, Emmy must decide whether she will embrace or deny her destiny… with the fate of every soul–living or otherwise–hanging in the balance!

Dark Horse Comics press release

The Complete Harrow County will once again be served up in hardcover style, and it’s going to be massive, clocking in at 1,078 pages. Also as mentioned, it’s set to be coming along at just the right time, and will hit stores on October 28th. Just in time for a little Halloween reading.
