Dormant for years, Ubisoft’s venerable Prince of Persia property is about to make a comeback. The newest game to brandish the name, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is inbound to retail this month and getting some incredibly good pre-release word.

A side-scrolling action title, The Lost Crown looks to be a mashup that’ll deliver a more action oriented form of the original PoP games, combined with the style of the Sands of Time trilogy. From the looks of it too, Ubi isn’t keen to rest on buzz, and has seen fit to deliver a demo that will give fans a taste of the full adventure.

There isn’t a ton of info on just what’s included in that early look, but in a cool twist, you can expect it to allow play in “carefully selected sections from the game”. Ubisoft says that, along with the location sampler, the demo will also “early unlocks of time powers and amulets”. But not to worry if you don’t want to story spoiled for you, as the publisher is leaning on that “carefully selected” tag, and says you won’t find anything included that ruins narrative surprises.

Prince of Persia™: The Lost Crown is an action-adventure platformer that takes place in Mount Qaf, an imaginary world inspired by Persian mythology, where the player will live an epic adventure to save the Prince and restore world balance. Embodying Sargon, a young gifted Persian warrior in the cursed mythological heart of Persia, player will explore diverse biomes and fight challenging enemies by combining unique Time Powers and Super Abilities. Prince of Persia™: The Lost Crown is developed by Ubisoft Montpellier.

Ubisoft press release

With the demo out now, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will hit in full for the Switch, PlayStation and Xbox platforms, the PC (via both Epic and Ubisoft’s own shop), and Luna on January 18th. Fans can get into the action a little early as well, by pre-ordering the Deluxe Edition, which unlocks on the 15th.
