Disney’s Haunted Mansion comes home just in time for Halloween

Fresh from a summertime theatrical run, the creepy corridors of Disney’s Haunted Mansion are coming home next month.

Haunted house

Disney’s Haunted Mansion, a film based off the iconic amusement park attraction, felt a little out of place as a summer release. The film was big-budgeted, family-friendly ghost story after all, and definitely seemed like it might have been a better Halloween-time treat.

If you thought the same, and maybe didn’t have it at the top of your movie-going priority list, then you’re in luck. Disney announced today that the movie would be coming to home video formats next month, just in time for a little spooky seasonal enjoyment.

Inspired by the classic theme park attraction, Haunted Mansion tells the story of Gabbie (Rosario Dawson), a single mom, who discovers that the home she and her son share is haunted by irksome ghosts. Hoping to restore domestic tranquility, Gabbie recruits a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid the house of the supernatural squatters. A non-stop blend of action, adventure and comedy featuring an all-star cast that includes LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto, Haunted Mansion was written by Katie Dippold and directed by Justin Simien. The film’s producers are Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, with Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman serving as executive producers.

Disney press release

In addition to the film, the package will also include a nice assortment of extras. Fans will find deleted scenes, bonus featurettes like Making Haunted Mansion and 999 Happy Haunts, and of course the ubiquitous gag reel.

Haunted Mansion will arrive, with all of the above, via “all major digital retailers” on October 4th, 2023. That’s a list that includes Prime Video, Apple TV, and Vudu/Fandango. If you prefer physical editions, and yes Haunted Mansion will have one, that will be along (and in stores) via 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD, on October 17th.
