Classically styled RTS Tempest Rising drops surprise Steam demo

Those looking for some old school real-time strategy action should fire up the old PC, and grab a demo for Tempest Rising.

Storm’s coming…

Slipgate Ironworks and 3D Realms (yes, 3D Realms!) have been preparing to fire off a salvo of classic RTS action at PC fans with Tempest Rising. The game is going all-in, and bringing back the genre as it was in its 90s heyday.

That includes both multiplayer modes and a massive single-player campaign, the later loaded up with two opposing factions to field, base-building galore, and plenty of action. There actually was a recent playable preview for the game, but now it’s back once more, during Steam’s Strategy Fest. So if you missed that or you’re just hungry for more, this little sampler might hit the spot.

The same campaign mission from that preview, which put players in the role of a Global Defense Forces commander, will be included this time too. But that’s not all, as the new demo will also add the ruthless Tempest Dynasty, giving players their first taste of what that faction offers.

Take command in the totally new first campaign mission for the Tempest Dynasty (DYN) and lead an army of unique units like the Missile Trooper, Ignitor, and Havoc Rocket Buggy into all-out warfare. You can even recruit Civilian Militia as an ally by completing side objectives. The mission also boasts special features such as bridges that can be destroyed and repaired, and the Dynasty’s Technician unit, which can capture buildings, repair vehicles, and plant land mines.

If you missed Tempest Rising’s Steam Playable Preview earlier this month, you can still experience the full first single-player mission of the Global Defense Forces (GDF) campaign. Take on the Tempest Dynasty with core GDF units like the Drone Operator and Sentinel Scout Car, as well as base-building, drone intel, air strikes, and TONS of explosive barrels!

3D Realms press release

Get fired up, and head on over to the game’s Steam page to grab a copy of the demo while it lasts. As for the full version of Tempest Rising, there’s no release date just yet, so stay tuned.
