Dark fantasy with a Slavic edge arrives on PC and consoles with Gord

Cap off your summer with a creep-out, as Covenant.dev and Team17 Digital’s “dark fantasy strategy” game Gord is finally here.

Not the fruit

Yes, that’s right, gourds are fruits and not vegetables. But that odd fact is besides the point, as we’re talking Gord, from developer Covenant.dev and Team17 Digital. And if you’re in the in the market for a different kind of strategy experience, it just might fit the bill.

Not only does Gord serve up strategic action and population management in a dark fantasy universe, but that universe is Slavic in nature. That’s not something that you see in games all that much, but Slavic myth and legend is rich with some truly creepy stuff.

Created by a team that includes former Frostpunk and The Witcher 3 developers, Gord is a single-player dark fantasy strategy game where, to survive, you must build, but to prevail, you must conquer the darkness beyond the gates. Completelife-threatening quests in a dark fantasy world while managing a populace whose personal stories and well-being can decide the fate of your tribe.

Team17 Digital press release

The quests are only half the action in Gord, as you can see in the launch trailer above. The game’s “Sanity System” will have to be minded as well, as it rules the illness and hunger of your town’s populace, though there’s even more to it. The Sanity System also tracks fallout from events like a family losing its kin. Think that plays well with citizens?

With a “wide variety of quests and random encounters” to keep you on your toes, plus a magic system, and “custom scenarios” that are procedurally generated, Gord is available right now for the PC.
