Retro FPS Nightmare Reaper heading to consoles next month

A retro FPS in the 90s mold, Feardemic’s Nightmare Reaper is about to carve into consoles, and in short order. Look for next month.

Is it a dream?

No it’s not a dream, nor an imaginary tale, as consoles are about to get a little retro love. That’ll come by way of developer Feardemic and Blazing Bit Games, with the unapologetically throwback shooter that is Nightmare Reaper.

The FPS, out now on the PC, is molded after the best of the genre… well, as it was back in the 1990s anyway. And yes, that means a “2.5D” presentation, complete with plenty of pixely gore.

Here’s a look at the game in action:

Nightmare Reapers is a dark and violent meld of retro and modern action games, inspired by the classic 2.5D first-person shooters of the 90s, with elements of modern looter shooters and roguelites.

Feardemic press release

Aside from the classically styled looks and gameplay, Nightmare Reaper is loaded with one of the biggest FPS arsenals maybe ever. How big? How’s 80 different guns and other assorted weapons to wield? Not too shabby.

Bringing all of that hardware to bear agains the game’s hordes of monsters will result in a pile of treasure that needs collecting. It’s not just for points either as, once grabbed, all that loot can be turned around to buy upgrades for the game’s hero. So while Nightmare Reaper is retro, it’s got some modern edges too.

Ready to dig into an old fashioned FPS-splatfest? Nightmare Reaper hits both Xbox and PlayStation platforms on May 11th.
