City-builder Land of the Vikings forges a norse world

Continuing the resurgence of vikings in the video game universe, Iceberg and Laps Games’ Land of the Vikings casts players as the Jarl.

There have been a heck of a lot of viking-themed games in recent years. Some of those have been blockbusters, with one such releasing today, while others have broadened the theme.

There haven’t been an overwhelming amount of those, but one of is definitely Land of the Vikings. A realtime city-builder, Land of the Vikings places players in the role of Jarl, with the mission of trading, raiding, and otherwise getting your people through the brutal northern winters.

In Land of the Vikings, players take on the role of the Jarl (Chieftain) of a new Viking village. A wise Jarl must manage resources, survive harsh conditions and enemy raids, and guide their fellow Vikings to work together through social conflict. Players must expand their village into a thriving city, but they are not entirely on their own. Norse gods will aid them with various rewards in return for their worship.

As you can see there, the play in Land of the Vikings isn’t all about raiding. It actually looks like a relatively small part of the action. Developer Laps Games says that you’ll be able to create whatever kind of village you want, sans grids, and do everything from planting crops and hunting, to building monuments to the gods and build taverns.
