Nightdive Studios’ System Shock remake looking great at PC Gaming Show

With a good deal of gameplay on display at yesterday’s PC Gaming Show, Prime Matter and Nightdive Studios’ System Shock is shaping up.

Shock to the system

No, you still can’t play the full game, but man is Nightdive’s System Shock remake looking great. The title, which still has a demo available on the PC, is humming along in development and had a new trailer debut at the PC Gaming Show yesterday.

The PC’s not-E3 showcase displayed a fresh look at a few of the game’s areas and enemies. Fans of the original might recognize a few of the locales, though all of them have been pretty heavily redone with “all-new HD visuals”.

Here’s a peek:

The exciting new trailer features the returning voice talents of Terri Brosius as SHODAN (Sentient Hyper-Optimized Data Access Network), a malevolent AI hellbent on humanity’s destruction. A wealth of new gameplay scenes are on display in the trailer, as well as a first look at iconic areas fully-reconstructed by the talented team at Nightdive Studios.

Prime Matter press release

Aside from the new looks, System Shock will also serve up “remastered” sounds and music. But past the aesthetics, players can also look for revamped controls, as well as a redone interface. So even if you’ve played the original game to death, you should find plenty here to entice you into another run.

There’s no release date yet for System Shock, though it will be available for the PC, and Xbox and PlayStation platforms.
