Ziggurat resurrecting the Jaguar CD’s American Hero this summer

No, not The Greatest American Hero, that’s something else entirely. What Ziggurat is bringing back with American Hero is a veritable title lost to time.

Parody

It was the 90s, and the ill-fated Jaguar CD was building what turned out to be a diminutive library. Just how diminutive? Well, I was a video game nut back then (some things don’t change), and I didn’t have nor want a Jag CD. Believe me, if you knew me then, you’d know how weird that was.

But like every console, no matter how big or small its impact, the CD attachment for Atari’s baby did have some interesting titles. One such, was shaping up to be American Hero. I’ve honestly never heard of the game, and it seems like it actually never saw the light of day.

A parody of 80s action films, America Hero put to use a format that’s all but vanished since – full-motion video. Like me, I’m pretty sure that there aren’t many that remember this one either. But thanks to Ziggurat Interactive and Full Clip Studios, it’s coming back. And that’s a cool thing, given that it actually had a pretty great cast of actors.

According to Ziggurat, the game will be fully restored when it returns too. And that’ll include brand new voice work, right from the original cast that includes Timothy Bottoms, Daniel Roebuck, and Musetta Vande.

In American Hero, players take on the role of former American intelligence officer Jack on a mission to stop the malicious virologist Krueger who plans to unleash a sinister virus upon the Los Angeles water supply. Players will face spur-of-the-moment decisions that will help or hinder Jack as he tries to protect the only scientist who has the cure for this deadly pathogen.

American Hero is destined for release at long last. Expect it to arrive some time this summer, for a full range of digital console platforms and the PC. There will be a physical boxed release as well, though that’ll come by way of Limited Run Games.
