Dark Horse recalls a classic film in its newest horror mini-series Aliens: Dust to Dust

Remember the special breed of action and terror that Jim Cameron brought to the big screen in Aliens? That’s what Gabriel Hardman is aiming for with Aliens: Dust to Dust.

Ashes to ashes

In deep space, the Trono colony on the planet LV-871 finds itself under attack by mysterious and deadly creatures of unknown origin. Emergency evacuations are ordered and shuttles are taking off as the massacre sweeps the colony. All that stands between twelve-year-old Maxon and his mom making it to the safety of the spaceport is a horde of Aliens! You’ll be gripping the edge of your seat as a mother and son fight for their lives against the deadliest monsters in the galaxy.

While Dark Horse has been publishing Aliens comics for years, this one has a special aim. Namely, to bring back that parental vibe that Ripley and Newt had in the classic Aliens sequel. As you can see above, that’ll play out here with mother and son.

Hardman will be handling the book’s story as well as the art, and he’s no stranger to films. You might not know the name, but he was the storyboard artist for biggies like Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, Logan, and Dawn of Planet of the Apes.

Even though he’ll be a one man crew on the interiors, he won’t be working on this one alone. That’s because Star Wars artist Carlos D’Anda will be providing the cover illustrations. From the first issue’s cover (shown here), that probably means we’re in for a treat.

Watch for Aliens: Dust to Dust #1 (of 4) to skitter into stores this April the 24th.
