Goodbye Nintendo TVii, Europe hardly knew you

Well, actually Europe never knew you because you never showed up on the Wii U.

Maybe not the most exciting of ideas, NIntendo’s plan to get TV listings on the Wii U has hit a brick wall in Europe and will be abandoned. Available in the US for a good while now, the system would show television (and some video-on-demand services) listings on the Wii U and allow users to search them for their favorite programs, then watch them right from the console and even post about those shows on social media.

If you were looking forward to seeing this added functionality added to your Wii U and you live in Europe though, well, it’s just not to be. Nintendo has basically announced that the app won’t be activated because it’s just too monumentally difficult to get all the European countries television services localized.

Honestly, while I don’t think this is any great loss, how hard could it be to get a different system in place for each country that has the console available? I have to wonder that this is simply a case of the service itself not being worth the trouble.
