Patrick Stewart confirms he won’t be appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse

It was sort of a known commodity already, but Sir Patrick Stewart has made it official on Larry King Now, he and Ian McKellen won’t be back to the X-Men movie franchise for the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.

Now, there’s no saying that either actor won’t be back for future installments of the series, so dont get too crazy about this announcement. It’s been kind of apparent for a while though, that neither one will appear in Apocalypse.

The film takes place in the 1980s after all, and deals with younger versions of all the characters, so much so that Fox is re-casting longtime X-Men Cyclops and Jean Grey. So it only makes sense that the ‘modern’ (read: older) versions of Professor Xavier (played by Stewart) and Magneto (played by McKellen) wouldn’t be present. I don’t think there are any time-travel elements in the Bryan Singer-directed flick either, so there’s pretty much no reason that they’d be in there anywhere.

The interview with Larry King had a few pretty interest gin little tidbits for fans of Stewart though. Aside from the X-Men quote, he also spoke a bit about his new show (created by Seth McFarlane), his newest movie Match, and odds and ends like his Twitter addiction and friendship with McKellen. It’s an interesting time, and if you’d like to check out the episode in its entirety, you can catch it right now on Hulu and Ora.tv. New episodes of Larry King Now premier daily on Ora.tv at 2pm EST, and this Friday should be a good one with the cast of Archer stopping by the studio.

And if you watch that show with any regularity, then you know this is probably one Larry King you’ll want to tune in for.
