Street Fighter 5 gameplay revealed for PS4

Capcom’s next Street Fighter installment will be a Sony exclusive (well, it’ll be on the PC too), and is looking like a Dragon Punched-up SFIV.

I guess I was expecting a bigger difference between Street Fighter IV and V than what is shown in this new trailer. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t say I was disappointed by what was shown off in this new trailer and it definitely looks great, but it looks so stunningly similar to SFIV beyond that that it’s definitely noticeable. I love the new lighting effects and expanded stages with break-throughs, but even the black, swirling paint-effects are still included in the game from SFIV and the character models look almost identical to what’s on last-gen consoles right now- just a lot more detailed.

For a real next generation Street Fighter,  would have liked to have seen another evolution in the franchise and some different designs for the famous roster of fighters. Of course, we still don’t know exactly who will make up that roster, since only Ryu and Chun-Li have been revealed so far. It’s probably a safe bet that more of the better liked World Warriors will be making a return this time around, since the only game in the series that didn’t feature too many of them wasn’t exactly the biggest of hits (SFIII, I’m looking at you).

Even though SFV is looking more like SFIV than I would have liked, it’s more Street Fighter, and that’s not a bad thing at all. Capcom’s Street Fighter V hits the PS4 and PC some time in 2015.
