Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark gameplay trailer rolls out

A better look at the in-game action in Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark is on tap for the latest trailer for the game, along with an intro for Drift, a Decepticon turncoat who’s fighting on the side of the Autobots.

It is kind of odd seeing the vastly different design sensibilities of the Transformers movie series appearing right next to the versions as shown in the excellent Transformers: Cybertron games. I’m honestly still not exactly sure how this melding of universes happens either. Though now it sounds to me like the movie ‘Formers might be the future versions of the Activision game-based bots since the publisher is saying that the two disparate versions of the property represent different eras.

Not one, but two eras of Optimus Prime lead the charge to secure this relic of unfathomable power, alongside returning heroes and villains like Bumblebee, Soundwave, and Bruticus, the towering quintet of destruction formed by the Combaticons.

The ‘relic’ they’re hunting is the title Dark Spark by the way. Robotic archeology aside though, we’re also introduced to a new Transformer in the trailer. Drift “a former Decepticon who takes up the sword and a new code of honor to atone for his past transgressions against the Autobots”, is a totally new character (as far as I know anyway) and has a very familiar look if you’re a longtime fan of the property. I actually thought he was Bludgeon at first glance, and if you get that reference then you get a gold star.

As for Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, you’ll be able to transform and roll out into Cybertron and Earth this June the 24th on the Xbox One/360, PS4/3, Wii U, 3DS, and PC.
