X-Force #1 (Comics) Preview

X-Force goes back to it’s roots as the teams plunges into the world of espionage to make sure the ‘Mutant nation’ gets a fair shake on the world stage.

Marvel is pleased to present your first look at X-FORCE #1 – the exciting new series from innovative creative team Si Spurrier and Rock-He Kim! Every sovereign nation in the Marvel Universe makes use of superhumans to protect national interests and pursue a covert national agenda. The stakes are high, and the prizes are intelligence, security, resources and power. Now, Cable and his new black-ops squad are entering this endless shadow-game to ensure that Mutants have a hand in the future of the Marvel Universe – by any means necessary!

“They don’t want global domination nor mutant superiority; merely to protect and strengthen the interests of The Mutant Nation,” says writer Si Spurrier, in an interview with Marvel.com. “And they’ll rain thunder and flame on anyone who says different.”

“X-Force isn’t looking to keep its existence a secret,” says Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. “They want to send a loud-and-clear message to the world that the Mutant Nation is not to be messed with.”

But when an international incident threatens the already fragile human/mutant relations, the Mutant Nation needs a dirty tricks department – and X-Force is it! Don’t miss the explosive action and political intrigue when Cable, Psylocke, Fantomex, and Marrow burst on to the scene in X-FORCE #1 this February!

Outside of the just announced The Amazing Spider-Man relaunch, X-Force is probably the book I’m most excited to see coming out of Marvel this year. I’m a pretty big fan of Cable’s group of grumpy mutants from way back in the ’90s and the original Rob Liefeld take on the characters. There was just something about the makeup of that squad with Cable, Domino, Cannonball, Shatterstar and the like that made for some mutant magic.

X-Force was all-action too and had some of the biggest stories in the Marvel Universe either start or be continued into its pages. It was a major force (no pun intended) in Marvel Comics’ universe and it really hasn’t been anywhere near as important here in the new millennium. Those are just some of the reasons why I’m so excited to see the team return to form to any degree.

The team is a strong one too with Cable, Psylocke, Fantomex and Marrow (there’s a blast from the past) rounding out the specialized and compact roster. True, I’d still like to see some of the old cast make a comeback in the new book, but I can’t say I’m unhappy with the choices Marvel has made with the new team.

Also very cool is the tone of X-Force. the group will once again be on the main stage with global events and missions on the plate that will take them to the far corners of the Earth. And I have to add that I love the ‘they don’t care’ attitude that they’ll be taking with the story lines- that just feels so much like the original team that it brings a pretty big smile to the face of they s longtime Marvel fan.

Make sure you check out X-Force (love the back to basics name too) when it hits retail shelves on February 12th from Marvel Comics and the team of Simon Spurrier and Rock-He Kim.
