LEGO The Hobbit trailer officially debuts

The first trailer for the upcoming LEGO-tized take on the Hobbit films arrives with an old wizard, a company of dwarves and one ring to rule them all.

LEGO The Hobbit sends players of all ages on an unforgettable interactive journey through the first two films in The Hobbit Trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the upcoming The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. Players will follow Bilbo Baggins as he is recruited by the Wizard Gandalf to aid Thorin Oakenshield and his Company of Dwarves. Bilbo leaves the comforts of the Shire on a journey through Middle-earth to help the Dwarves reclaim their lost Kingdom of Erebor within the Lonely Mountain. Along the way, he is introduced to ravenous Trolls, dangerous Orcs and, of course, Gollum and his precious Ring. Players will utilize and combine the Dwarves’ unique abilities – often with hilarious results – to solve the most diverse Quests of any LEGO videogame to date.

LEGO games have really been changing up the formula over the last few releases in the ‘series’ and it looks like LEGO The Hobbit is going to continue that trend. As much fun as the titles have pretty much always been, that’s a good thing too as too much of anything with no variation can get more than a little stale. Adding in more diversity to the levels and ‘quests that you’ll have to go on as well as unique abilities for the dwarves of Erebor sounds like just the ticket to keep play more on the fresh side of the dragon’s den.

Look for LEGO The Hobbit to launch on the Xbox One/360, PS4/3, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, and PC sometime in 2014.
