Rebellion’s Atomfall is almost here, and the latest look asks ‘What Truth Lies Beneath?’

Taking a swerve away from WWII is Rebellion, as the developer heads into Atomfall’s mysterious quarantine zone next week.

Beneath it all

Different indeed, Rebellion’s Atomfall is a sci-fi action/adventure that takes place in the wake of an accident at a nuclear plant. But it’s not all imaginary, as Atomfall’s actually based on a real-world occurrence. That, if you’re unaware, would be the Windscale incident of 1957.

A heating accident that caused a meltdown, Windscale is still one of the worst nuclear accidents in not just the UK, but the world. It’s a fact that makes it sharp fodder for fiction, especially since basically no one talks about the real event.

From the looks of it too, Atomfall picks up some narrative threads and runs with them, creating a world that’s separated from the whole of the UK, and melds both medieval and science-fantasy. But even with all of that, there’s something else afoot too, something that involves what really went down at the power plant.

Today we get a hint of all of that, in a fresh look at the action/survival title in action.

A UK-based post-apocalyptic survival-action game, Atomfall is inspired by the real life Windscale nuclear incident in the 1950s. Players will embark on a fictionalized adventure, encountering a cast of weird and wonderful characters as they try to uncover the mystery and escape the quarantine zone.

Rebellion press release

Ready to discover what truth lies beneath? Atomfall is rapidly approaching its release, and hits for current and last-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles, plus the PC (via Steam and Epic) on March 27th. On top of that standard retail and digital launch though, the game will also be a day one release on Game Pass, and will be certified for Steam Deck right from the jump. So you’ve got some options.

Finally, fans itching to play as soon as possible will be able to get a three day head-start, if they buy the Deluxe Edition.
