If McFarlane’s modern MK wasn’t your bag, you might dig what the toy-maker has in store with Mortal Kombat Klassic.
Now that’s more like it
We have to admit, while we’re digging what NetherRealm and Warner Bros is doing with the Mortal Kombat games lately, we’re still massive fans of the old school designs. There’s just something about the looks that particularly MKII gave its cast, that we just can’t get past. If you’re in the same boat, then you might be wishing that somebody was on the license, poised to strike with figures based on some of those klassic looks.
That’s what’s so particularly cool about what McFarlane Toys is getting ready to unleash. Revealed behind closed doors at Toy Fair this week, McF took the wraps off of Mortal Kombat Klassic. A followup to the company’s previous MK offerings, Mortal Kombat Klassic gives long time fans just what they want, and what they’ve apparently been asking the company for.
“As longtime partners with the talented team behind the Mortal Kombat games, we’re thrilled to once again bring fans a new wave of exciting figures inspired by this legendary video game franchise. What’s especially exciting this time around is the opportunity to revisit some of the all-time classic characters – something Mortal Kombat fans have been asking us to do for years. We’re finally diving even deeper into the rich history of this brand, and we can’t wait to deliver what fans have been craving.”
Todd McFarlane, Founder and CEO of McFarlane Toys
McFarlane’s new Mortal Kombat Klassic lineup will be offered both solo and in two packs, with each figure cast in the company’s usual 7″ scale. The line will be “fully articulated”, and fans can also look for each figure to include “additional accessories” and sport “meticulous attention to detail”, according to the company’s press release.
Renders of some of those figures had been revealed last week at IGN’s Fan Fest live stream, so we already knew that Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Liu Kang, Kitana, and Mileena were all coming up. Toy Fair played host to early looks at those actual figures, plus a few new reveals, though there’s been no official imagery yet.
Still, we now know that Raiden is on the way too, plus a variant of Sub-Zero. Don’t worry too much that he’ll be taking up space in the line though, because as goes MK figures, McFarlane says that there’ll be “many more to come”.
