The first time Uncle Scrooge appears in a Marvel-branded comic is going to be a celebration, with some slick variants.
Infinity covers
Believe it or not, Disney’s iconic Uncle Scrooge hasn’t appeared in a comic book from Marvel yet. that does seem kind of odd, given that he had something of a renaissance a few years back thanks to the return of Ducktales. Yet, as strange as it does appear, it’s the truth. It, however, is also the truth that the oversight is going to be attended to fairly soon.
Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime (no relation to Stones or Gems) will be coming to stands this summer. Writer Jason Aaron will be taking the reins for the book, which will also feature a series of artists including Paolo Mottura, Francesco D’ippolito, Vitale Mangiatordi, “and more”. Speaking of artists too, there are some massive names limned up for the cover onslaught.
Yes, this is a book that’ll have variants (it’s Marvel, remember?), and you can expect to see those from the likes of Alex Ross and Lorenzo Pastrovicchio, Pepe Larraz, Skottie Young, and even Frank freaking Miller. How’s that for a lineup?
“As far as I’m concerned, there’s no disputing the fact that Uncle Scrooge is one of the absolute greatest characters in the history of comics. And I don’t just mean comics that feature talking animals. I mean all comics ever, bar none,” Aaron shared. “Uncle Scrooge’s rich, action-packed history includes some of the most exciting adventure comics ever created, by legendary creators like Carl Barks and Don Rosa. It’s one of the most mind-staggering thrills of my career to get to craft this epic cosmic adventure for the World’s Richest Duck, one that looks to honor the character’s legendary history while taking him to some wild, new, unexplored places in the way that only Marvel can deliver.”
Marvel Comics press release
For the record, we couldn’t agree with Aaron more. Though modern fans might not be aware, Scrooge has a rich and lengthy history with comic books, not just cartoons. His classic series goes back decades, all the way back to Christmas on Bear Mountain in… 1947. Since then of course, we got the above cartoon series and a plethora of additional comics, all of which expanded the character and his world. It should prove interesting to see exactly which elements Marvel picks up on, for this new incarnation.
You’ll be able to see exactly where it’s all headed on June 19th, 2024, when Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime #1 lands on the racks.
