A new run calls for a new villain in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man

Marvel’s upcoming new run of Amazing Spider-Man is set to intro not only a fresh first-issue, but also a villain. Meet Hellgate.

Unleash hell

If you’re a regular reader, then you’re likely aware that Marvel Comics is set to once again reboot the numbering on Amazing Spider-Man. Along with that, naturally, will come a fresh creative team, though these are no rookies.

Joe Kelly, Pepe Larraz, and the great John Romita Jr. will be bringing fans their monthly dose of web-slinging action in the book, and apparently they’ll be introducing a new villain too. From the looks of Hellgate, this isn’t your traditional Spidey foe either.

Instead, Hellgate kinda looks like he might be more at home battling Thor or Hercules. The character is set to be a powerhouse, which is kind of obvious from his design, though his motivations won’t be all that clear when he debuts.

The only thing that will be as clear as crystal, is that he really (really) doesn’t like Spider-Man. Or really, spider-people in general.

Representing Spider-Man’s greatest challenge in the new era, HELLGATE will force Spider-Man to endure some of his most brutal battles ever and will significantly impact the course of Peter Parker’s life—both in and out of the suit! First briefly teased in last month’s Amazing Spider-Man #65 by Joe Kelly and Cafu, readers can expect reveals behind Hellgate’s origin, identity, and mission throughout the upcoming run’s first year.
