Apogee’s Quest Master freezes over with new update

A frigid new biome is available now for Apogee and developers Julian Creutz and Skydevilpalm’s Quest Master.

Winter has come at last

If you don’t know what Quest Master is and you’re an old school Zelda fan, you need to get educated. The game, which is currently in Early Access, is essentially a 16bit aRPG engine, that allows users to create their own games in the mold of the SNES classic.

With the game now heading towards a full release in 2025, Quest Master has just added a sixth dungeon theme with the Ice Temple Update. Coldfang Grotto is exactly what it sounds like too, allowing players to craft, play, and share their own cold weather locations.

Aside from the general setting, fans can create ‘frozen’ gameplay elements in Maker Mode, challenging players with figuring out how to unthaw them, plus carve out icy paths to cross water, and allow for the use of the freezing boomerang. Throwing that at foes will frost them over them where they stand, using them to activate pressure plates.

Deep within Aetheria lies Coldfang Grotto, a treacherous, frostbitten expanse where slippery slopes and bone-chilling obstacles await. Challenge dungeoneers to navigate this frozen terrain, brimming with monsters, puzzles, and traps across a biome crafted for heroes brave enough to embrace the cold.

While the Ice Temple Update is live now for the Early Access version of the game on PC, Quest Master‘s full 1.0 update will bring the game much more. The bump up to the full retail version is targeting a spring 2025 release, and will include a complete single-player campaign to go along with the Maker Mode.
