Create a league of your own with Maximum Football, out now on Steam Early Access

A different kind of American football game has freshly landed on Steam‘s Early Access, with the super customizable Maximum Football.

Thank goodness it’s not Xtreme

It’s no secret that the video game football market is a pretty limited one. That wasn’t always the case, since the NFL license was held by multiple publishers in years gone by, though it’s certainly become that way thanks to the league being exclusive to a single publisher.

But if you’re a fan who isn’t into the yearly same-ol’, same-ol’, what exactly is your recourse? Well, stay tuned, because there’s a game that’s just hit Early Access on the PC, and it might give fans a legitimate option. That, as you can see, is Maximum Football.

Offering a free-to-play tier, Maximum Football not only looks like a viable alternative to the usual in terms of graphics and gameplay, but it’s also set to deliver maybe the most customization in the history of the genre. The game revels in the fact that there are no licenses present, and will allow players to make more or less whatever kind of a league that they like.

Here’s the latest look:

Maximum Football allows players to create up to 130 (!) teams, complete with custom logos and the ability to change everything for their players, “from ratings and name to accessories.” But it doesn’t stop there, as those looking for a deep experience will find a College Dynasty Mode in place as well.

That’s right, using that mode, players can draft and recruit players, and manage not only their team, but even stadium personnel. Developer Maximum Entertainment isn’t stopping there either, as the game is intended to grow quite a bit from this Early Access starting point.

According to the press release, next year will see the arrival of the “professional football” Franchise Mode, as well as a Career Mode, and more. All of the above will lead into the full version “1.0” release as well, which will hit for the PC, plus PlayStation and Xbox platforms some time in 2025.

Until then, would-be PC players can get in on the action right now for free, via Steam.
