The Deathinitive Edition of THQ Nordic’s Darksiders II is coming back around , this time for a modern enhanced version.
Death is a constant
THQ Nordic says that “Deathinitive Was Not The End”, and we suppose they’re right, because Darksiders II’s pale rider is coming back one more time. And no, we don’t mean the ‘next’ title in the series, which was teased during the publisher’s showcase last month, we mean he’s back as in there’s a new version of Darksiders II on the way.
Well technically, this incoming game isn’t new, and is still Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition. But since it’s debuting on the current crop of consoles, it’s not going to look quite the same as what you might’ve played before. Expect better loading times than ever, as well as quite the field of modern enhancements.
This upgraded edition of the beloved action-adventure brings 4K resolution, ray tracing, and enhanced lighting and shadows to harness the power of today’s consoles. If you’re playing on PlayStation 5 with a DualSense controller, you’ll also get to experience the full impact of haptic feedback, adding extra depth and immersion to every strike as Death. The game’s loading times have been drastically improved thanks to SSD technology, ensuring a smoother experience overall.

Buying into the end
Ready for another run at the biblical apocalypse? Well, there are a few ways to do so. Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition will arrive on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 14th, 2024. So if you haven’t played before and you want to just buy a copy straight out, that’s your path. However, if you already have the game for the PS4 or Xbox One, you’re getting a free upgrade.
First is the PS4 game, and if you have that, then you’re already in for the PS5 version. Yep, it’s a free upgrade that you’ll get right at launch. As you might imagine, there’s a similar scheme for Xbox fans, though it sounds like it’s a lil bit better.
Players who game on the Xbox One, and don’t have a copy of the game already, will find a 50% off sale happening right now. The discount is set to run through October 14th (2024), and if you buy in, you’ll be able to get that same upgrade as seen on the PS5 upon launch. Naturally, said upgrade will be dropped onto your Xbox Series X|S via Microsoft’s Smart Delivery.
