MOTU and TMNT meet in Masters of the Universe/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles of Grayskull

It’s more than just a toy line, as this fall brings Dark Horse’s Masters of the Universe/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles of Grayskull.

80s icons clash

If you’re a fan of action figures and iconic 80s properties, then you’ve no doubt seen Mattel’s newest Masters of the Universe action figures. The line brings together the company’s mainstay Masters of the Universe property with an equally massive one; the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But while said series of toys presents a basic story for its oddball mash-up, things are about to get a lot more interesting.

In the same vein as the publisher’s MOTU/Thundercats series, Dark Horse is crashing headlong into a meeting of the above characters for a four issue mini-series this September. The book will follow the Turtles from their Earthly home to Eternia, thanks to a dark agreement between TMNT foes Krang and Shredder, and He-Man’s nemesis Skeletor.

The tale of planet-hopping heroes will hail from writer Tim Seeley, who’s no stranger to Masters, having brought Masters of the Universe: Forge of Destiny and Masters of the Universe: Masterverse to fans. That’s not to say that the artist onboard is a neophyte either, as Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Injustice/Masters of the Universe‘s Freddie E. Williams II will be attached for the interiors.

When the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came across Krang and Shredder making a deal with some otherworldly ‘demon-mage’ named Skeletor, things got hella-weird and they ended up in ETERNIA! It turns out, when you mix Utrom mutagen with demon magic you get a nasty purple poison—and it’s brought Eternia to the brink of chaos. So, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo are teaming up with the Masters of the Universe to kick some blue boney butt. The only problem is…He-Man is missing in action.

Dark Horse Comics press release

Masters of the Universe/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles of Grayskull #1 (of 4) will bring the mutagen and magic to comics shops this fall, debuting on September 25th, 2024.
