It’s a music festival zompocalypse, as the second expansion arrives for Dead Island 2

The dead don’t stop in Hell-A, as the SoLA music festival is overrun and a new terror is unleashed in the world of Dead Island 2.

Bitin’ to the beat

Released in 2023, Dead Island 2 brought the first game’s zombie apocalypse stateside, with an infected Los Angeles. It was there that players had to take up arms as an all-new dead-smashing hero, and survive the streets of the city that had become Hell-A. Since it’s initial drop, we’ve seen a pretty big expansion released, with the cult-centric HAUS.

If you’ve since made your way through that, and are looking for even more to do, then you’re going to love what’s just arrived. Launched earlier this week, Dead Island 2’s SoLA DLC is live, and promises even more zombies to slap around. Of course that’s not all, as there are also new “apex” enemies, a new weapon, and a zombifying beat called the Autophage. The title SoLA is a reference to the new location as well, an in-game music festival, or at least… it was a music festival.

At the time of the expansion, SoLA is a rotten pit of blood, gore, and undead. And mysteriously, those undead may have actually been created by the aforementioned Autophage. Even worse, said beat has the potential to be heard everywhere, globally.

A deadly virus sweeps through The Valley, turning its inhabitants into ravenous zombies as a chthonic rhythm calls from beyond: The Beat of the Autophage. Lured to the festival by an enigmatic warning message, players must explore SoLA’s ruins and put a stop to this otherworldly menace.

Deep Silver press release

You might’ve noticed some of the new residents brought to life by SoLA in that trailer, and they include the Whipper and the Clotter. The former is a former show-goer who was driven to extreme levels of self-harm by the Autophage, and who can lash out at range with their intestines. Not grossest enough fro you? How about the Clotter, who can blast a “powerful jet of putrid blood from its heart” and also turn into a mass of unkillable viscera? That little trick allows it to ooze somewhere else to reassemble and continue its assault. Yeah, nasty stuff.

If you’re ready to take the trip to SoLA, the DLC expansion is out now for all versions of Dead Island 2.
