Action-RPG Achilles: Legends Untold quests to consoles and PC next week

A “souls-like” aRPG? That’s the promise of Achilles: Legends Untold, which takes the Greek hero on a mythical quest.

Just watch the ankle

From Dark Point Games, Achilles: Legends Untold is looking like it might offer something pretty new for genre fans. While it’s an isometric aRPG, it’s one that also works in a battle system that’s not seen often in the category. As you can see above, that’s meant to cast a “souls-like” feel over the game’s campaign.

So how does that work within the action-RPG framework? Well, according to the press release, tough battles against single and small groups of foes will actually force players to think and strategize during fights, instead of just clicking ‘attack’ over and over til their foes are dead.

Aside from the souls-tag, the game will also feature something called the GAIA system. That’s an acronym obviously, which stands for Group AI Action, and that should result in enemies cooperating, and actually working together to take Achilles down. If the whole system works as it’s described, it just might make Achilles: Legends Untold an actual evolution for aRPGs.

With the game arriving next week, Dark Point Games has released a new trailer featuring developer commentary that should showcase what you can expect from it.

Rewrite the myth of Achilles – the mighty Greek warrior and the commander of brave Myrmidons. After the War of Troy, you return to Greece and find your homeland plunged into chaos. The multilayered story takes you through the diverse locations of ancient Mycenae, where danger lurks at every corner. Learn how to cope with your new nature and step on the hero’s journey to save the mortal world from impending doom. On November 2, the story will be complete as Achilles: Legends Untold brings the full tale of the hero of the Trojan War, together with many improvements that elevate the epic adventure, including more than 20 hours of gameplay, exciting quests, and a New Game+ mode.

Dark Point Games press release

As you can see there, along with the new look at it in action, we’ve also got a release date. While the game is out now as an Early Access title, the full launch for Achilles: Legends Untold is coming up next week. Genre fans can look for it to officially arrive on PC, as well as Xbox Series X|S and PS5, on November 2nd.
